Armstrong, 36, shares the spotlight with such well-known celebrities as George Clooney, Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, and some lesser-known bachelors, such as a rodeo cowboy and members of the U.S. Army bobsledding team.
A 1983 graduate of Irvine’s Woodbridge High School, Armstrong presently serves as team physician for his alma mater and several local high schools. Armstrong earned his B.S. in molecular biology from Princeton, where he also served as co-captain of the varsity football team. He received his medical degree from UCLA, where he also finished his residency. While completing his sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Armstrong served as assistant team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh basketball team. He is currently the team physician for UCI athletic teams.
Armstrong has been a surgeon and assistant clinical professor at UCI Medical Center for three years. His research interests include the effects of joint instability and rotator cuff disease on shoulder muscle forces. He is also investigating new innovations in posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. He has published papers and chapters on knee ligament biomechanics, shoulder injuries in athletes, and knee stiffness and related injuries. While his clinical expertise covers all aspects of sports medicine, his primary focus is the shoulder and knee.
