The world-class multidisciplinary team enlists the clinical expertise of specialists in medical neuro-oncology, surgical neuro-oncology, radiation oncology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, radiation oncology and neuropsychology. The UC Irvine Comprehensive Brain Tumor Program is the only fellowship-trained neuro-oncology led comprehensive brain tumor program in Orange County and one of three in Southern California. The program is dedicated to advancing medicine through leading-edge research into the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of all types of primary and metastatic central nervous system tumors, including brain tumor experimental clinical studies. In addition, the program utilizes the latest technology for diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors, including the first 3-Tesla magnetic resonance (MR) scanner in Orange County, the first intraoperative MR (IMR) scanner in Orange and San Diego counties (which enables the team to perform image-guided minimally invasive skull base tumor endoscopies), the Varian Trilogy linear accelerator and the Gamma Knife PerfeXion stereotactic radiosurgery unit. The UC Irvine Comprehensive Brain Tumor Program is part of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing patients access to the newest treatments and therapies for the disease. The Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Orange County, one of 10 in California and one of only 41 nationwide. |
