UROLOGIC CANCER SERVICES
Together, cancers of the prostate gland, kidney, ureter, bladder and testicles
are among the most common in the United States. In fact, prostate cancer is the
second most common cancer diagnosed in American men today, and the third leading

Advanced Technologies
To diagnose and treat urologic cancers, UC Irvine Medical Center has assembled a
multidisciplinary team of experts armed with today’s most advanced technologies.
Our urology team uses minimally invasive robotic, laparoscopic and endoscopic approaches
to halt the spread of cancer. These state-of-the-art procedures help preserve normal
body functions and circumvent many of the risks associated with traditional open surgeries.
UC Irvine Medical Center was the first facility in Southern California to offer
minimally invasive, robotic prostatectomy using the da Vinci® Surgical System.
This robot-assisted system enhances a surgeon’s dexterity, precision and control.
By reducing blood loss, complications and healing time, the system improves patient
experiences and outcomes.
Pioneers in Laparoscopy
The UC Irvine Medical Center urology team has the most extensive experience in
the world using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques. They pioneered the
use of advanced surgeries for kidney and ureter cancers, establishing a new surgical
approach for serious urological problems. Procedures are performed in the Karl Storz
OR1 Endoscopy Surgery Center—a state-of-the-art facility custom-designed for
laparoscopic procedures.
