Digestive diseases can range in severity from troublesome to life-threatening. Fortunately, new
advances in research and technology have greatly improved the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
The H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center (CDDC) at UC Irvine Medical Center provides
state-of-the-art care to patients with disorders of the esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, colon and
rectum.
All consultation and diagnostic services at the CDDC are provided in a newly expanded multispecialty suite
located on the third floor of the center. Our comprehensive treatment services are conveniently

Multidisciplinary Team
Our patients receive compassionate care from a multidisciplinary team of clinical experts.
These include gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, dieticians, nurses,
social workers and case managers. Together, they create individualized treatment plans to optimize
patient care and promote the best possible outcomes.
Best Doctors
CDDC physicians have been named Best Doctors in America®, an honor recognizing the top 5 percent of
doctors in the nation. For five years in a row, many of our physicians have been honored as Physicians
of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association. CDDC doctors are actively involved in
clinical research trials. They also train and educate other specialists in advanced and emerging techniques
and treatments.
Advanced Technologies
Experts at the CDDC specialize in minimally invasive surgeries using endoscopes, thin, flexible instruments to see inside the body and perform various procedures. The benefits include no incisions or scars, reduced blood loss and more rapid recovery.
CDDC specialists offer a new treatment for patients whose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has developed into Barrett’s esophagus, a condition in which precancerous cells arise in the esophageal lining. Using HALO technology, radiofrequency waves eliminate the abnormal cells with heat energy, allowing healthy cells to replace them.
