INTERVENTIONAL ENDOSCOPY SERVICES
Today, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures can often spare patients with digestive disorders from having to undergo major surgeries. These new methods minimize trauma and reduce blood loss, resulting in shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.

Pioneers in Endoscopy
During endoscopy, surgeons use thin, flexible tubes equipped with miniature cameras and other devices to diagnose and treat disorders ranging from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) to certain cancers. The H.H. Chao Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center at UC Irvine Medical Center is at the leading edge of interventional endoscopy.
We are home to some of the most respected pioneers in the field who played a leading role in advancing the use of endoscopic systems and applications. One technique called endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration provides a less invasive, more accurate way to visualize and biopsy tumors.
