Hospitalists are physicians responsible for managing the care of hospitalized patients on behalf of their primary physicians. They coordinate consultations with specialists, order tests and procedures and provide care throughout a patient's hospital stay.
Benefits of our hospitalist program:
- High-quality patient care is available around the clock, seven days a week. Under traditional practices, patients might see their physicians once a day during their routine rounds. Through the hospitalist program at UC Irvine Medical Center, patients see their physicians as often as needed.
- Because hospitalists are based at UC Irvine Healthcare’s Orange Campus, more timely care is available. Hospitalists can modify treatment or follow up on a test result on the spot, instead of waiting until the next day. This hands-on approach not only helps prevent medical complications, but may also results in shorter hospital stays and lower costs.
