Consultation and Treatment
UC Irvine nephrologists provide consultations and treatment for patients with:
- Renal, electrolyte and acid based disorders
- All types of kidney disease
- Hypertension (with or without renal disease)
Dialysis Services
UC Irvine Medical Center offers extensive inpatient and outpatient dialysis services, including:
- Outpatient hemodialysis
UC Irvine Medical Center is home to a state-of-the-art, 20-station dialysis unit for
treatment of adults with end-stage renal disease. This program takes a
multidisciplinary approach to renal disease.
- Peritoneal home dialysis
UC Irvine Healthcare offers peritoneal home dialysis, including complete training
and support services for either continuous ambulatory or continuous cycling to
allow patients to dialyze at home. This program is available to both adults and
children with end-stage renal failure.
- Inpatient (acute) dialysis
UC Irvine Medical Center provides hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous
arteriovenous hemofiltration (CAVH) and continuous veno-venous hemofiltration
(CVVH) to adults and children with either chronic or acute renal failure.
- Hypertension services
At UC Irvine Healthcare’s Hypertension Center, patients receive comprehensive
assessment of primary and secondary hypertension with or without renal disease.
Clinical research studies of hypertension also are conducted at the center, located
at Orange County’s only university hospital.
Patients involved in study protocols receive complete clinical laboratory
evaluation, medications and follow-up care free of charge. Individuals enrolled in
the program also may receive monetary compensation for their time and travel.
