Nephrology Services provides consultation and treatment for patients with:

  • Renal, electrolyte, acid based disorders
  • End stage renal failure due to renal disease
  • Hypertension (with or without renal disease)
  • Kidney stones

 Dialysis services offered:

  • Outpatient Hemodialysis
UC Irvine Medical Center is home to a state-of-the-art, 20-station dialysis unit. Utilized for dialyzing both adults and children in the end stages of renal failure, the program is based on a multidisciplinary approach to renal disease.
  • Peritoneal Home Dialysis
This program offers complete training and support services for either continuous ambulatory or continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis which allows patients to dialyze at home. This program is available to both adults and children with end stage renal failure.
  • Inpatient (Acute) Dialysis
This program provides hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, CAVH and CVVH to both adults and children with either chronic or acute renal failure.

Hypertension Center

The Hypertension Center provides comprehensive assessment of both primary and secondary hypertension for patients with or without renal disease. The Center also serves as a Clinical Research Center for studies of hypertension and related conditions. Patients involved in study protocols are provided complete clinical laboratory evaluation, medications, and follow up free of charge. Individuals enrolled in the program may also be provided with monetary compensation for their time and travel.

Kidney Stone Center

The Kidney Stone Center is one of three major programs in the United States offering state-of-the-art assessment of the underlying metabolic and other causes of uro- and nephrolithiasis. The results and recommendations for therapeutic, dietary and lifestyle modifications for the long term management of the patient are provided to the referring physician and invariably result in the elimination or marked reduction in the rate of recurrence. Given the usual high rate of stone recurrence and accompanying cost of emergency room visits, hospitalizations, surgical procedures, lithotripsy, and the potential for irreversible damage to the kidneys, such comprehensive evaluation and preventative management prove most cost-effective.
