Q. Is laser vision correction right for me?

A. Every patient’s eyes are different. Some people are nearsighted (myopia) while others are farsighted (hyperopia), have astigmatism or difficulty reading (presobyia). New advances in lasers have made it possible to treat such conditions with LASIK and PRK techniques that were unavailable even a few years ago.

At the Refractive Surgery LASIK Center at Gottschalk Medical Plaza on the UC Irvine campus, we begin with a thorough eye examination to determine whether a patient is a candidate for vision correction surgery. A good candidate for laser vision correction should:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have healthy corneas and no eye conditions
  • Have had a stable vision prescription for the past 12 months
