Psychiatry Services
UC Irvine Medical Center offers the full spectrum of comprehensive mental health services for children and adults, including inpatient hospitalization as well as outpatient and emergency psychiatry. Patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, nurses, occupational therapists and psychiatric technicians.

Our psychiatric inpatient program focuses on rapid assessment and stabilization of the patient in crisis. Treatment plans are tailored to individual requirements and may include medication, group participation, recreational therapy and family participation.
Our UC Irvine Neuropsychiatric Center has a 12-bed Youth Services Unit to treat severe attention, anxiety, mood, eating and psychotic disorders in older children and adolescents. For older adults who suffer from psychiatric and or behavioral problems, UC Irvine Healthcare offers a psychiatric inpatient program for geriatric patients. This program manages complicated combined medical-psychiatric problems.
Outpatient Services are structured within an integrated biopsychosocial framework and include comprehensive mental health services for patients of all ages. This programs actively involve family members.
Specialized outpatient services are provided for patients with the following conditions:
- Schizophrenia
- Mood disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Attention deficit disorder
- Eating disorders
Emergency psychiatric evaluations are available 24 hours a day, with a physician on-site at UC Irvine Medical Center’s Emergency Department.
