PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION

Physical medicine and rehabilitation services provides a therapeutic community whose mission is to assist patients with increasing their functional level and adjusting to their disabilities so that they can return to a productive, dignified and independent life.

A full complement of inpatient and outpatient programs are available for patients with musculoskeletal, neuromuscular or cardiopulmonary disabilities.

Rehabilitation programs address the following conditions:
 

  • Amputation
  • Arthritis
  • Burns
  • Cancer
  • Congenital abnormalities
  • Electrodiagnosis
  • Geriatrics
  • Hand injury
  • Head injury
  • Multiple sclerosis or other neurological disorders
  • Neck or back injury, or other orthopedic problems
  • Pain management
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Sports related injuries
  • Stroke
  • Work-related injuries

Services include:

Rehabilitative Therapy Services

Rehabilitative therapy services, comprised of an integrated multidisciplinary team, provide therapeutic intervention to patients with a wide range of physical disabilities. Services are offered in both an inpatient and outpatient setting, as well as in UC Irvine Medical Center’s 19-bed licensed acute rehabilitation unit under the medical direction of both physiatrists and orthopedic surgeons.

Neuropsychological Services

Neuropsychological services provide evaluation, consultation and treatment to physically-disabled and chronically ill individuals ages 7 and older. These services are provided in a variety of settings, including the inpatient acute hospital, the acute rehabilitation unit and on an outpatient basis.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy service feature individualized and group treatment programs for patients whose function is impaired by physical illness or injury, congenital or developmental disability, or the aging process.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy services are available for patients with a wide range of diagnoses, from musculoskeletal to neurological.
