Our Physicians Kirkup Center for the Medical Treatment of Stuttering at UC Irvine is staffed by experts who understand the medical, psychological and social complexities of stuttering and who are passionate about providing high-quality, individualized patient care.
Gerald A. Maguire, M.D., DFAPA Dr. Maguire is the director of the Kirkup Center for the Medical Treatment of Stuttering at UC Irvine. As a person who stutters himself, he is passionate in helping those who share this disorder. For more than 15 years, he has conducted numerous research studies investigating medications for the treatment of stuttering. In October 2007 along with his colleague Dr. David Franklin, and with generous community support, the Kirkup Center for the Medical Treatment of Stuttering was founded under their direction. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Learn more about Dr. Maguire »
David L. Franklin, PsyD, MHA Dr. Franklin is a licensed clinical psychologist for UC Irvine Healthcare responsible for researching pharmacological treatments for stuttering, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Dr. Franklin has been assisting Dr. Maguire in developing research strategies and medications treatment for those individuals who stuttering. He also has published many articles with Dr. Maguire in peered reviewed journals in discovering new treatments for those who stutter. |
