Radiology Services – Conditions & Services Main | Overview | Team & Expertise | Our Physicians | Conditions & Services | UC Irvine Healthcare’s highly skilled team of radiologists diagnose and help treat a broad spectrum of conditions ranging from liver tumors and strokes to uterine fibroids and breast cancer with the most advanced imaging and diagnostic technology available. They include a1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, a 64-channel positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner, high-field MRI scanners, five helical CT scanners for ultra-fast imaging, digital mammography and technologically advanced procedure suites. Working in a collaborative and integrated environment with physicians throughout UC Irvine Medical Center, these radiologists provide imaging and diagnostic services for Orange County’s only Level I trauma center and the area’s sole accredited Primary Stroke Program. UC Irvine radiologists also provide services for the VA Long Beach Health System. UC Irvine Healthcare radiologists specialize in women’s and abdominal imaging services as well as a host of interventional radiology services, including chemoembolization and cryoablation of tumors. Women’s Imaging UC Irvine radiologists are committed to delivering the best diagnostic imaging for conditions and diseases that affect primarily women, including infertility, pregnancy, breast cancer, gynecologic cancers and osteoporosis. UC Irvine’s experts in women’s imaging, a subspecialty of diagnostic radiology, are at the forefront of the use and development of women’s imaging technology. For example, collaboration among UC Irvine radiologists, oncologists, surgeons and medical engineers has resulted in pioneering laser-based techniques that have improved early detection of breast cancer. UC Irvine Healthcare also has teamed with Aurora Breast MRI of Orange County to provide the only dedicated breast MRI unit in Orange County. Abdominal Imaging Services UC Irvine specialists in abdominal radiology concentrate on the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts, as well as solid organs of the abdomen and pelvis, using the most advanced diagnostic tools to provide the highest quality radiological imaging and improved outcomes for patients. They specialize in abdominal/ pelvic CT (including three-dimensional imaging), MRI of the abdomen and pelvis (including vascular MRI), ultrasound (including routine abdominal, pelvic, vascular and obstetric ultrasound), percutaneous interventional procedures, including biopsy and drainage, and traditional gastrointestinal (GI) and genitourinary (GU) radiology. Ultrasound services are available for all abdominal, pelvic and gynecological applications. UC Irvine expert radiologists provide obstetric ultrasound with three-dimensional and four-dimensional imaging. They also perform ultrasound-guided core and percutaneous fine-needle aspiration biopsy within the abdomen and pelvis as well as saline infusion hysterosonography and hysterosalpingography (HSG) to examine the uterus and fallopian tubes. UC Irvine radiologists also perform the full array of gastrointestinal fluoroscopic radiology procedures, including modified barium swallows, esophograms, upper gastrointestinal studies and small bowel examinations, including CT and MRI enteroclysis and contrast enemas. GU imaging includes intravenous urograms (IVUs), CT urograms and dedicated urinary tract imaging using CT, ultrasound and MRI.
