Radiology Services – Overview
Main | Overview | Team & Expertise | Our Physicians | Conditions & Services | Radiologists save lives by locating and describing diseases, enabling physicians, including interventional radiologists, to treat patients with a better understanding of their conditions. This is possible because of advances in high-technology radiological equipment and procedures, which makes possible early and specific diagnoses. Today’s surgeons depend on radiological studies not only to pinpoint problems but also to guide them through exceedingly complicated procedures. UC Irvine Healthcare’s nearly 40 board-certified radiologists provide the highest quality and most advanced patient care available in Orange County and the surrounding community. Working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, they provide radiological services for Orange County’s only Level I trauma center and the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Program, designated by The Joint Commission as a primary stroke center. UC Irvine radiologists have the expertise and the most technologically advanced equipment to ensure superior radiological services in all imaging modalities, including conventional radiography, angiography, ultrasonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and nuclear medicine. UC Irvine Douglas Hospital houses the region’s only intraoperative MRI, which greatly improves outcomes for patients with brain tumors by producing highly detailed, three-dimensional pictures of the brain during all phases of an operation. UC Irvine Douglas Hospital’s new Radiology Services suite is equipped with a 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, a 64-channel positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) scanner, high-field MRI scanners, five helical CT scanners for ultra-fast imaging, digital mammography and technologically advanced procedure suites. Adjacent angiography makes possible the rapid transfer of patients from MRI and CT rooms to treatment rooms. Molecular imaging suites provide full-body images down to the cellular and molecular levels, which is especially useful in locating cancer. UC Irvine radiologists operate the only dedicated breast MRI unit in Orange County, a measure of its commitment to expanding specialized care in the diagnostic imaging of diseases and conditions that primarily affect women. Beyond their expertise in these advanced diagnostic capabilities, radiologists at UC Irvine Medical Center also are pioneers in performing interventional radiologic procedures in a variety of subspecialty fields, including treatment of blood clots, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease and carotid stenosis. With their emphasis on the mastery of advanced diagnostic and imaging technology and providing thorough, compassionate care at Orange County’s only university medical center, UC Irvine top-flight radiologists are among the best in the nation. |
