UC Irvine’s SeniorHealth Center team includes geriatricians, physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers, neuropsychologists and nurses – all with special training in the care of older patients.
Dr. Mosqueda, director of geriatrics for UC Irvine Healthcare, is a board-certified family physician and geriatrician. Her clinical interests include geriatric medicine, persons with disabilities, memory loss, dementia and preserving the quality of life for older patients. One of Mosqueda’s major areas of expertise is elder mistreatment. She founded a medical response team in Orange County that provides consultation on abuse cases, an elder abuse forensic center and the Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition. She also served as national co-chair of the Department of Justice’s forensic forum on elder abuse and on the National Academies panel that published the 2002 report “Elder Mistreatment: Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation in an Aging America.” Learn more about Dr. Mosqueda »
Dr. Gibbs specializes in the care of older adults. Board-certified in family and geriatric medicine, she is an expert in dealing with the overlapping medical problems and chronic illnesses that often affect aging adults. As a physician at UC Irvine Healthcare’s SeniorHealth Center, Gibbs works with an interdisciplinary team to improve and maintain the health, quality of life and functional ability of her patients.
Dr. Le specializes in the care of older adults. Board-certified in internal and geriatric medicine, he is an expert in dealing with the changing needs of aging adults. Le, a physician at UC Irvine Healthcare’s SeniorHealth Center, has a special interest in caring for patients in skilled nursing facilities. He also is fluent in Vietnamese.
Dr. Sanati is board-certified in internal medicine and he has completed fellowships in medical oncology and geriatrics at UCLA. A member of UC Irvine Healthcare’s SeniorHealth Center interdisciplinary team, Sanati is one of the few geriatric specialists in Southern California with training in both specialties.
Dr. Seghal is a board-certified geriatrician who specializes in internal and geriatric medicine. Her clinical interests include preventive medicine, healthy aging, women’s health, hypertension, osteoporosis and elder abuse.
Dr. Khandhar-Desai specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, fibromyalgia, scleroderma and lupus. She is board-certified in internal medicine and fellowship-trained in rheumatology. Her clinical interests include inflammatory joint disease and connective tissue disorders. Dr. Kawas is a board-certified neuropsychiatrist with extensive experience in treating older patients, including those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and memory disorders. Dr. Kawas’ research has found that diets rich in oranges, legumes, leafy green vegetables and folic acid supplements can significantly reduce their risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.
Dr. Oak, a clinical neuropsychologist, provides neuropsychological assessments and psychotherapy services for patients served by the SeniorHealth Center. Her clinical specialties include neuropsychology and rehabilitation.
Dr. Olsen is a licensed clinical psychologist with the SeniorHealth Center. She conducts cognitive and mental health assessments for the Health Assessment Program for Seniors (HAPS). Olsen has extensive experience evaluating cognitive disorders and assisting caregivers for individuals with cognitive or emotional disability.
Dr. Gurvich provides pharmacology consultations SeniorHealth Center patients. She meets with patients to get an accurate history of prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and food supplements, then evaluates all medications to determine whether they are necessary, appropriate for older patients and prescribed at the proper dosage. Dr. Gurvich also reviews the potential for adverse drug reactions and interactions. Her recommendations are provided to the patient’s physician for consideration and implementation.
Dr. Williams, a clinical pharmacist for the Senior HealthCenter, monitors drug therapy and manages medication therapy in older adults. Williams' clinical interests include the evaluation of drug therapy in older adults and in aging patients who have a disability.
Valerie George is a certified physician assistant with the SeniorHealth Center. She is responsible for evaluating SeniorHealth Center patients, diagnosing conditions, prescribing medications and recommending medical equipment.
As nurse manager for the SeniorHealth Center, Thuy Pham is responsible for daily operations, management and supervision of the clinic staff. She studied nursing at Golden West College, received her bachelor's degree in nursing science at California State University, Fullerton and her master's degree as a family nurse practitioner at California State University, Long Beach. Pham speaks fluent Vietnamese.
Geraldine Date, a clinical social worker on the SeniorHealth Center’s interdisciplinary team, provides patients and their families with psychosocial help and education for long term care issues. Date also provides psychotherapy and supportive counseling to patients and coordinates the Health Assessment Program for Seniors (HAPS) consultation clinic. |
