OverviewMain | Overview | Our Physicians | Conditions & Services UC Irvine Healthcare’s Comprehensive Spine Program provides leading-edge diagnostic services as well as surgical and nonsurgical procedures for adult and pediatric patients suffering from back pain and spinal disorders. The multidisciplinary program at UC Irvine Medical Center brings together specialists in neurosurgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurology, physiatry, anesthesiology, pain medicine, physical medicine and other specialties to design the most effective treatment for each patient. As the only university medical center in Orange County, UC Irvine is staffed and equipped to provide a wide range of procedures, including the most advanced minimally invasive approaches currently available for spine conditions. UC Irvine Healthcare's spine program surgeons recently performed the first robot-assisted spine surgery on the West Coast using SpineAssist®, an advanced robotic navigational tool. SpineAssist, which also can be used for traditional open surgery, increases precision when the surgeon is placing spinal implants to stabilize the spine. The robotic guidance system includes a computerized work station that allows the surgeon to develop a three-dimensional surgical blueprint individualized for each patient. A robotic arm positioned during the procedure then guides the surgeon to the predetermined points for optimal placement of the implants. |
