The team also includes radiologists, physical and occupational therapists. Together, team members are able to address all aspects of spinal care. UC Irvine Healthcare has the only program in Orange Countyand one of only a few in the countryto offer patients this level of coordinated care for back pain and spine conditions.
Dr. Bhatia is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive surgery and the treatment of all neck and back disorders. His clinical interests include spinal stenosis, disc hernations, spinal tumors, spine fractures and spinal cord injuries. Dr. Bhatia is an expert in degenerative cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, spinal tumors and pediatric and adult scoliosis; and is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Thaiyanathan is the co-director of the UC Irvine Comprehensive Spine Program. An expert in minimally invasive spine surgery and non-fusion surgery, Dr. Thaiyanathan treats all disorders of the spine. Dr. Hata, an interventional physiatrist, specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and nonoperative treatments for spinal conditions. Dr. Hata is responsible for developing and overseeing the interventional spine program component that will focus on conservative and nonsurgical treatment options for back pain. He finished a fellowship with the Department of Anesthesiology at UC Irvine Medical Center and is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. |
