Justin T. Hata, M.D.
Co-Director, Comprehensive Spine Program

Justin T. Hata, M.D., co-director of the UC Irvine Comprehensive Spine Program, oversees the program’s nonsurgical component. Hata, an interventional physiatrist, specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and nonoperative treatments for spinal conditions.

Hata is responsible for developing an interventional spine program component that will focus on conservative and nonsurgical treatment options for back pain. With the addition of Hata’s expertise and experience, the UC Irvine Comprehensive Spine Program is one of only a few programs in the nation to combine pain medicine, physical medicine, nonoperative neurosurgery and orthopedics under one roof to provide patients with highly-coordinated, multidisciplinary care.

Hata received his doctorate with New York Medical College and finished his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and a fellowship with the Department of Anesthesiology at UC Irvine Medical Center. His clinical interests include spine pain, acute and chronic pain, spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal drug delivery, neuropathic pain and interventional pain management. He is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
