Margo Moritz At age 22, Margo Moritz came to the Young Adult Cancer Program at UC Irvine Medical Center’s with symptoms that at first suggested ovarian cancer. But after a comprehensive examination, her doctors diagnosed her with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a fast-growing cancer that starts in the lymphatic system. The disease had caused a large abdominal tumor, which was making Margo extremely ill. Most commonly seen in children, Burkitt’s lymphoma occurs rarely in adults. In fact, Margo’s condition might not have been diagnosed as quickly if she’d consulted an oncologist who only treated adult patients. Margo was given an aggressive course of therapy. Today, with her cancer in remission, she’s doing well. Following a trip to South America, Margo enrolled at a university in San Francisco to pursue a graduate degree in the art of photography. Meanwhile, Margo’s team of cancer specialists at UC Irvine Medical Center remains in close contact with her, monitoring her progress and making sure she continues to thrive. |
