John S. Lane III, M.D. John S. Lane III, M.D., specializes in general vascular and endovascular surgery at UC Irvine Medical Center. His clinical interests include surgical procedures that improve circulation in patients with blood vessel problems, specifically stent graft repairs of abdominal aortic aneurysms, and carotid artery stenting. Dr. Lane’s research interests encompass the evaluation of new technologies that can improve the treatment of vascular disease. In particular, he is focused on the vital question of whether these technologies actually improve patient outcomes, such as reducing hospital stays and shortening recovery time. An additional area of research involves risk factors that can be used to predict premature peripheral vascular disease (PVD). In the first national study of health data on people with PVD, a team of researchers led by Dr. Lane showed that coronary artery disease and elevated serum fibrinogen levels are strong predictors of PVD in people under the age of 60. These findings can be used to help improve early detection efforts and accelerate preventive measures such as putting people who are at risk of PVD on medication. |
