UC Irvine Medical Center is a major referral center for the
diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. It is also one the few
centers in the United States that offers laparoscopic surgery to remove
cancerous tumors of the distal pancreas. Less invasive than conventional
open surgery, laparoscopic surgery benefits the patient by reducing trauma
and blood loss, thus shortening recovery time.
David K. Imagawa. M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., is medical director of the UC
Irvine Medical Center’s hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery program.
Dr. Imagawa is an expert on laparoscopic resection of the distal pancreas,
and has published extensively on this and many other topics in digestive
disease clinical research and treatment.
