Dr. Stephen Lipkin
cancer center physician
“The UC Irvine Cancer Genetics Clinic is a great resource for patients who have reason to
suspect they might be at a higher than average risk of cancer, and would like an evaluation and
counseling. For example, having a parent, sibling or child who has had colorectal cancer can help
give us information about a person’s risk. And patients under age 50 who have had more
than one occurrence of colorectal cancer might have a hereditary predisposition to the disease.
We can offer our patients genetic testing, and teach them about strategies to help prevent cancer
from occurring. For people who want information and guidance on staying healthy, this is an
invaluable service.”
