Tahseen Mozaffar, M.D.
Neurologist

Tahseen Mozaffar, M.D., is director of the MDA ALS Neuromuscular Center at UC Irvine Medical Center.  As a nationally recognized expert in his field, Mozaffar serves as a principal investigator and co-investigator in clinical trials of novel therapeutic drugs for ALS, as well as other neuromuscular conditions. His research interests include the pathophysiology of neuromuscular disorders, encompassing nerve dysfunction and the molecular and cellular aspects of muscle atrophy.  Additional investigations focus on discovering the genetic factors involved in the development of ALS, as well as new diagnostic tests and treatment options for patients with ALS. 

Among Mozaffar’s publications are dozens of original peer-reviewed research articles, book chapters and invited reviews.  A fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and past president of the Orange County Neurological Society, he sits on numerous committees of professional associations and medical research foundations.

Responding to the strong interest in neuromuscular research within the medical community, Mozaffar is a frequent lecturer, guest speaker and presenter at medical grand rounds, professional meetings and research conferences.  He also supports public awareness of advances in neuromuscular research by speaking at gatherings of patients and caregivers.

Mozaffar is a highly regarded teacher, and has received many awards for his contributions to the education of neurologists, both at UC Irvine Medical Center and other institutions. He also acts as an advisor to medical organizations developing novel diagnostic technologies and promising treatments for neuromuscular diseases.
