Stroke & Cerebrovascular Center Conditions and servicesMain | Overview | Team & Expertise | Our Physicians | Conditions & Services The highly trained, multidisciplinary team at UC Irvine Healthcare’s Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of patients with strokes and other diseases that affect blood vessels supplying the brain. The center is the first in Orange County and among the first in the nation to be certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. The center—located at UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County’s only university hospital—also is one of the few nationally certified medical facilities in Southern California to offer interventional neuroradiology treatments for stroke. With this minimally invasive technique, the physician uses a micro-catheter to deliver clot-dissolving drugs, perform clot removal or administer other treatments to the tiny damaged vessels in the brain. The team provides: These physicians also conduct clinical research studies aimed at developing innovative treatments to restore patient function after a stroke as well as to prevent brain attacks. Patients enrolled in the center’s clinical studies have access to new medications and treatments not available elsewhere in the county. |
