Acute Care Surgery Services team and expertise
Acute care surgery patients benefit from having a rapid response trauma team on site with immediate access to the operating room. Led by surgeons who are board-certified in both surgery and surgical critical care, this multidisciplinary team typically includes emergency medicine physicians, residents, critical care nurses and allied health professionals. The team also has access to many onsite subspecialists who provide valuable consultative services, ensuring each patient receives individualized care.
Dr. Hoyt is an internationally known trauma surgeon and leads surgery services for UC Irvine Healthcare. Throughout his career, he has held multiple national leadership positions in trauma. Dr. Lekawa, director of trauma services, is a board-certified trauma and acute care surgeon who has dedicated his life to improving care for patients suffering from trauma or emergent surgical conditions. Dr. Lekawa is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Pacific Coast Surgical Society and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma. As medical director of the UC Irvine Regional Burn Center and director of acute and resuscitative services, Dr. Cinat treats a wide range of patients who have suffered catastrophic injuries. She provides holistic care for patients and oversees the surgical critical care fellowship program. A board-certified surgeon with fellowship training in surgical critical care, Dr. Cinat has developed expertise in the acute management of burns, skin disorders and complex wounds. She serves in leadership roles of many regional and national surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons. Her research interests include prevention and management of surgical infections, resuscitation and evaluation of trauma and burn patients and the investigation of new techniques in burn and wound management. Dr. Dolich is board-certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care. His expertise includes care of severely injured patients, complex operations, reoperative procedures and leading-edge minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries. Dr. Malinoski, director of the surgical intensive care unit, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained general/trauma surgeon and surgical intensivist. His clinical and research interests include central line infection prevention, deep venous thrombosis prevention, rhabdomyolysis and organ donor management. Stephanie has been the trauma program manager for UC Irvine Medical Center since 1995. She has been a nurse for more than 25 years with a background that includes critical care and emergency nursing, as well as paramedic and flight program administration. Her responsibilities as trauma program manager include ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards relating to trauma, as well as oversight of the Trauma Performance Improvement Program and Trauma Injury Prevention Program. She also serves as the community liaison to the Orange County Emergency Medical Services Agency and received the 2008 “Vision in Emergency Medical Services” award. |
