 John Butler, M.D
 Surgical Oncologist

As deputy director of the Clinical Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and an oncology surgeon, Dr. Butler coordinates care with UC Irvine’s multidisciplinary breast care team, which includes surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and radiologists – all who specialize in the treatment of breast disease. Dr. Butler received surgical oncology fellowship training at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He sees patients at UC Irvine’s Breast Health Center and Beckman Laser Institute.

 David Hsiang, M.D.
 Surgical Oncologist

Dr. Hsiang is a surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of breast cancer. He is most interested in ensuring patients have access to the most advanced techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Hsiang sees patients at UC Irvine’s Breast Health Center and Beckman Laser Institute and speaks both fluent English and Mandarin Chinese.

 Karen Lane, M.D.
 Surgical Oncologist

Dr. Lane is a dedicated breast surgeon that specializes in examining and treating patients with benign and cancerous breast lumps. She is dedicated to the ensuring breast cancer patients have access to the most current and comprehensive treatments and resources available in Orange County. For the past several years she has focused her attention on increasing the quality of follow-up care and quality of life for breast cancer survivors.

 Rita Mehta, M.D.
 Medical Oncologist

As a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer, Dr. Mehta designs treatment plans specifically for each patient. She coordinates with the entire breast health team at UC Irvine and takes an interest in both the physical and emotional well-being of her patients. Dr. Mehta has been associated with UC Irvine since 1992 when she did her fellowship training in hematology/oncology. She has been the principal investigator on many clinical trials and is very focused on finding a cure for the more than five types of breast cancer currently identified. Dr. Mehta is working on several trials including the use of therapy for tumor reduction prior to surgery to remove the tumors.

 Edward Nelson, M.D.
 Medical Oncologist

Dr. Nelson is a physician/scientist and medical oncologist. He strives to bring the best and latest scientific advances to the physicians office so patients may receive the most up-to-date and optimal care possible. Prior to joining UC Irvine, Dr. Nelson was head of the immunotherapy laboratory at the National Cancer Institute-Frederick Cancer Research and Development Center. His efforts have been primarily focused on breast cancer research and clinical care. Dr. Nelson sees patients at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Beckman Laser Institute.
