UC Irvine Regional Burn Center is one of the few burn centers in the nation verified by the American College of Surgeons. UC Irvine has led the nation in burn care with advanced surgical techniques, innovations in synthetic skin treatments and expert patient care. Each year, more than 600 patients are treated for burns of all kinds – and one-third of these patients are children.

Minor burns are treated at UC Irvine’s outpatient clinic. Burn care specialists are available daily to assess injuries, while the outpatient nursing staff and therapists perform hydrotherapy, dressing changes, and physical and occupational therapy. This clinic also serves as a transition for patients with larger burns following discharge from the hospital.

UC Irvine Regional Burn Center serves as the primary educational resource for burn care in Orange County. Our educational mission includes ongoing medical training to other professionals, such as fire service personnel, paramedics, and fellow Orange County physicians and nurses. Our faculty physicians and nursing staff provide specialized education in burn care including Advanced Burn Life Support classes.

Our burn survivor programs are designed to heal the spirit and allow survivors to thrive emotionally and socially. Programs supported by UC Irvine Burn Foundation include pediatric burn camps, school re-entry assistance, picnics, holiday parties and scholarships for staff and burn survivors to attend annual events such as the American Burn Association conference and the World Burn Congress.
