UC Irvine Visitor and Patient Advisory

VISITORS:

To prevent the spread of the H1N1 influenza (swine flu) virus, people with flu-like symptoms are urged to avoid UC Irvine Healthcare facilities unless they are seeking medical attention from our providers. For the safety of our patients, please do not visit hospitalized or emergency department patients if you have a fever, cough, sore throat or other flu-like symptoms.

PATIENTS SEEKING CARE:

If you have severe flu symptoms such as breathing difficulties, uncontrollable fever and dehydration, call 911 or go to your closest emergency department. If your symptoms are milder, we recommend calling your primary care provider to assess whether you need to be checked or tested. Patients arriving at the emergency department are seen in order of the severity of illness or injury, so if your symptoms are determined to be mild after an initial evaluation, you may have a longer wait time than if you went to your primary care provider.
