Patients with neurological conditions will be cared for in state-of-the-art units on the fifth floor of the new UC Irvine Douglas Hospital. The neurosciences intensive care unit will treat the most critically affected, with additional beds reserved for patients with brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, movement disorders, spinal cord injuries and neuromuscular diseases.
Aided by state-of-the-art imaging technologies, top stroke specialists will deliver leading-edge diagnostic and treatment services, while clinical studies enable patients access to potentially breakthrough approaches.
Patients with brain and spinal cord conditions may be treated through individualized approaches using radiation therapy, chemotherapy or minimally invasive surgery.

The new hospital will provide inpatient care for those seen through the UC Irvine-MDA ALS and Neuromuscular Center. The center’s clinicians diagnose and treat chronic, debilitating neurological conditions, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), muscular dystrophy and myasthenia gravis.
