With the only Level I trauma center in Orange County, UC Irvine provides the most advanced trauma care available to adults and children who have sustained life-threatening injuries. The center is verified by the American College of Surgeons and meets the highest standards of trauma care in the nation. Often, many of these patients must be rushed into the operating rooms to undergo lifesaving procedures. The UC Irvine Douglas Hospital will feature 15 state-of-the-art operating rooms (ORs), each 50 percent larger than the current ORs to accommodate the latest imaging and surgical equipment.
After surgery, UC Irvine’s trauma and critical care team will supervise patients in the hospital’s new state-of-the-art intensive care units (ICU), including the surgical ICU, neurosurgical ICU, pediatric ICU and the burn ICU. The new, larger ICU rooms will house advanced monitoring equipment to care for patients.
