Families and Students Together (FAST)Main | Adult Volunteers | Child Life/Cuddler Volunteers | College Student Volunteers | Families and Students Together Volunteers | Music Volunteers | Spiritual and Pastoral Care Volunteers | Student Intern Research Programs | TAILS Pet Therapy Volunteers UC Irvine Healthcare’s Families and Students Together Program is for high school students who are at least 15 years old. A new class of students is recruited in late August or early September. The program runs October through June. The Families and Students Together Program is centered on parent volunteers working with students, so we encourage parents to volunteer with their high school student. Preference in the selection process will be given to applicants with a parent or adult who can volunteer alongside them at the medical center. What are the requirements to volunteer? You must have a general health clearance and be able to volunteer for at least three hours each week and commit to at least 75 service hours. You also must be able to work one of the following shifts:
All volunteers must attend a two-hour orientation. Call the volunteer office at 714.456.5541 to confirm when applications are being accepted. What does the health clearance involve? Every volunteer must have a signed health clearance. The health clearance involves two tuberculosis skin tests and proof of immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella and chicken pox. The TB skin test can be conducted here at the medical center at no cost to you. Is a uniform required? Yes. Uniforms can be purchased for $20 at your orientation. What skills or experience do volunteers need? The most important requirement to be a volunteer is a friendly, customer-focused attitude. You do not need medical or clinical experience. A willingness to serve, to give back to your community and be helpful and caring are the traits of a successful volunteer. Excellent communication skills are required. What volunteer opportunities are open to Junior Volunteers?
