Our physicians are well equipped to serve the distinctive emotional, clinical and psychosocial needs of this group. Working at the only university medical center in Orange County, our doctors and staff have access to myriad resources and expertise to provide comprehensive treatment plans and follow-up services for this young adult population.
As deputy director of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and a surgical oncologist, Dr. Butler coordinates care with UC Irvine Healthcare's multidisciplinary breast care team, which includes surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and radiologists. Dr. Evans leads the Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery Institute and specializes in the full spectrum of plastic surgery, with an emphasis on cosmetic procedures for the face, eyes, abdomen, breasts and body contouring. He is also a leading researcher in tissue engineering, including the development of new tissue equivalents for damaged nerves to help restore function to cancer, burn and trauma patients. Dr. Fruehauf is fellowship-trained in medical oncology and biotechnology. His clinical interests include developing individualized treatment strategies for cancer patients based on their own unique tumor biology. As the director of clinical pharmacology and developmental therapeutics at UC Irvine, Dr. Fruehauf focuses on identifying markers that predict individual patient response to treatment, with special emphasis on antiangiogenesis agents. Dr. Hsiang is a surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of breast cancer. He is most interested in ensuring patients have access to the most advanced techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. As director of UC Irvine Healthcare’s Melanoma Center, Dr. Jakowatz has treated almost every form of this type of skin cancer. He has extensive experience using the SIAscope® for melanoma detection. The system uses spectroscopy to create high-resolution images from which our specialists can accurately evaluate moles and suspicious skin conditions for the possibility of melanoma. Dr. Linden is a melanoma expert with UC Irvine Healthcare’s Melanoma Center in the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Linden also practices general and surgical dermatology at Gottschalk Medical Plaza on the UC Irvine campus. As a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer, Dr. Mehta designs treatment plans specifically for each patient. She works in concert with the entire breast health team at UC Irvine Healthcare’s Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and takes an interest in the physical and emotional well-being of her patients. Dr. Mehta is focused on finding a cure for the more than five types of breast cancer currently identified. Dr. Sender, medical director of UC Irvine Healthcare’s oncology services team at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, is a nationally known expert in disorders of the blood and lymphatic system. His clinical interests include leukemia, myeloma, sarcoma, lymphoma, melanoma and brain tumors. As one of the founders of SeventyK, a nonprofit organization designed to raise awareness of the 70,000 young adults and adolescents diagnosed with cancer, Dr. Sender is deeply committed to offering these patients the best chance at a full recovery and full life. Dr. Smith specializes in the care of patients with atypical mole syndrome, melanoma and other types of skin cancer.
